Assurance of supply in a global marketplace has proved to be the Achilles’’ Heel in the current war on COVID-19 pandemic. The panel will identify the current deficiencies and explore solutions for enhancing the interface with global suppliers; flow of material, information and capital; real time visibility end to end; data sharing and system integration; and mitigation of risk of dependence on foreign suppliers. The value of a platform to represent the marketplace of buyers and sellers will be discussed.

The challenge of having the supplier become an extension of the enterprise and have a smart contract that is not only transactional but strategic will be explored.

Panelists:
Karen Conway,
Vice President, Healthcare Value, GHX
Paul Anderson,
Senior Director, Clinical Supply, iIlumina
Joel Sutherland, Managing Director Supply Chain Management Institute, University of San Diego School of Business
Horacio Enriquez,

10:15 – 11:00 am | PANEL: “Preparedness for the Distribution of Emerging COVID-19 Vaccines”

The timely and effective delivery of vaccines to the world population of 9 billion will require an unprecedented collaboration between vaccine manufacturers, government agencies, and private distributors. The stakeholders of the healthcare industry will address how the industry must prepare to maximize the effectiveness of the supply chain in an environment where demand far exceeds overall supply. Topics to be covered will include regulatory approvals and guidelines for distribution compliance, availability of other commodities required for vaccine dispensation, packaging and serialization, temperature-control shipping and storage, transportation network deployment, last mile distribution, Quality Assurance, security, pharmaco-vigilance, and end-to-end visibility. Experience of handling the US H1N1 supply chain will be highlighted along with traceability to eliminate the risk of counterfeit vaccines.

Never before has the logistics network been so challenged where the cargo capacity of passenger airlines has disappeared and the trucking industry has been devastated by lack of consumer goods to be delivered. A critical assessment of the “State of The Union” will be made of global transportation along with adaptations being made to maximize delivery of goods to healthcare institutions, pharmacies and distributors. Solutions will be discussed to address issues of network capacity, visibility, temperature-control requirements, rerouting options, dynamic pricing, and country-specific regulations.

11:45 – 12:30 pm | PANEL: “Digital Transformation of Life Sciences: The Imperative for an “Antifragile” Supply Chain”

The Finance industry and Hollywood proved to be more insulated against the apocalyptic devastation of the Coronavirus than Healthcare. This was partly due to their increased focus on digitalization. The potential for deploying digital solutions and emerging technologies reign supreme in life sciences, from drug development to manufacturing, distribution, marketing, dispensing, and patient care. In a patient-centric and demand-driven industry, which is rich in data, the pervasive challenges of integration, visibility, and data integrity are daunting and inhibit real ROI. The panelists will discuss the necessary ingredients and opportunities for digital transformation in life sciences that can lead to greater supply chain resiliency and agility, superior patient outcomes, and improved cost-effectiveness.

Panelists:
Susanne Somerville,
CEO, Chronicled
Ricky Alas
, Digital Transformation Lead, Genentech
Leon Trevett, Director, Global Supply Chain Planning, illumina
Rich Kilmer, CEO, CargoSense
Roddy Martin, Chief Digital Transformation Officer, Tracelink
Moderator: Randy Bradley, Associate Professor of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management, Haslam College of Business, The University of Tennessee

ii12:30 – 01:00 pm | “Virtual Audit of Manufacturers & Suppliers – Necessity is the Mother of Invention!”

Audits by Regulators and Your Clinical Customers: Now that many regulatory bodies and agencies have converted to virtual audits due to COVID-19, how do you prepare and execute virtual audits effectively and efficiently?

Audits of Your Key Clinical Material Suppliers: When access to your supplier’s facilities is limited or even not permitted, how can you assure yourself of the quality standards in operation to provide continuity of supply of medicinal products, whilst meeting regulatory requirements and protecting the patient? Virtual audits have emerged to respond to achieve compliance with the broad regulatory spectrum of GMP, GCP, GLP, GPV, GDPR, Med. Dev., CSV and DI requirements.

Real Life Examples: Two presentations will showcase how a network of international GMP experts, e-rooms and videoconferencing are utilized to enable virtual GMP auditing while meeting cGMP needs in commercial medical device operations.
